5 ways to style your wedding with dusty blue

Posted on March 21, 2016 by Samantha Costello | 0 comments

As the traditional bridal rhyme goes, everyone needs a little something blue on their wedding day and this dusty blue shade is a particular favourite of mine. I think it is classy and sophisticated and makes for a truly fabulous wedding colour scheme, as you can see in the moodboard above. As always, I've come up with 5 ways for you to incorporate this beautiful shade into your big day...

1. Groom's Attire

Your groom could wear a deep dusty blue suit, to compliment the colour scheme in a subtle way.

If he didn't want to wear a whole suit in dusty blue, he could opt for a dusty blue tie and matching pocket handkerchief.

2. Decorations and Accessories

This is a beautiful way to bring colour into your wedding. Using pops of dusty blue around your venue will have a coherent but subtle effect. Try incorporating colour via your chair covers and napkins. You could also add pops of dusty blue in the ribbon around your bouquet and make sure that your stationery has colour running through it.

3. Jewellery

Jewellery or hair pieces are a really lovely and sometimes sentimental way to incorporate your 'Something Blue' into your big day. My best friend bought me pretty blue hair clips to wear on my wedding day and you could only see the dainty blue colour when you were close to me but I knew they were there and they added a lovely personal touch to my wedding day.

4.Bridesmaid Dresses

Dusty blue is a flattering shade that looks lovely on most people, so it is a great choice for bridesmaids dresses. Bridesmaids dresses also add a perfect pop of colour to your big day and can either be exactly the same colour (for impact) or shades of dusty blue (for subtlety).

5. Flowers

Dusty blue flowers look absolutely exquisite in wedding bouquets. My favourite way to include this colour in your floral designs is with the following...

  1. Hydrangeas
  2. Succulents
  3. Blue Hyacinths (these smell amazing too!)
  4. Blue Thistles
  5. Blue Iris
  6. Blue Orchids

5 ways to style your wedding with pink & green

Posted on March 14, 2016 by Samantha Costello | 0 comments

I think that mint green and blush pink make up the prettiest wedding palette for a Spring or early Summer wedding. You can see in the above moodboard how well these pretty colours compliment each other and here are 5 top ways to incorporate the colours into your big day...

1. Bridesmaids Dresses

Choose which shade you would like to be the more prominent (pink or green) and choose bridesmaids dresses in these shades. You could choose exactly the same dress for each of your maids or you could choose slightly different shades to create an ombre effect.

2. Wedding Cake

Much like your first dance, the cutting of your wedding cake is a momentous occasion on your wedding day and one that will be photographed, so it is important that you have a cake you will be proud to have in your wedding album. Gone are the days of having a plain white cake (we had tiers of stacked cheeses!), so make a statement and incorporate a colour or decorate a white cake with colourful ribbon.

3. Wedding Shoes

I think this is the best way to have a little bit of fun. I wore Valentino Rockstuds on my wedding day but obviously they were under my dress, so noone could see them, until I lifted my dress up and everyone squealed with delight :) Whether you want a fun design or a pop of colour, don't overlook this wedding day accessory.

4. Flowers

Flowers are a wonderful way to incorporate colour into your wedding day. Work with your florist to create a floral design that will perfectly compliment the colour scheme of your day. Your florist will also know which flowers will work best in your chosen colours and they will also be able to recommend flowers that are in season at the time of your wedding.

5. Wedding Stationery

Wedding stationery sets the tone for your wedding. It is the first piece of correspondence that your guests receive and this should remain consistent with the rest of your on-the-day stationery and also your colour scheme. Wedding stationery is a really fun way to add a pop of colour to your big day.

Colour me Pretty :: Blush Pink & Gold

Posted on March 07, 2016 by Samantha Costello | 0 comments

I always love to start a bespoke design project with a moodboard. It enables me to work with my client to gather images and inspiration for their brand or, in this case, wedding stationery, and I will refer back to the moodboard on a regular basis throughout the project.

This moodboard is the beginning of a very special and exciting project. My sister is getting married in June and I'm so happy that I get to design all of the stationery for her big day. Anyone who knows my sister (Carrie Green) or has followed her entrepreneurial journey, will know that she is particularly partial to shades of pastel pinks and corals, with hints of sparkly gold here and there, so it came as no surprise at all when she told me that this was the colour scheme she wanted for her wedding. I think it is a beautiful colour combination and I'm excited to share the results with you in a few weeks.

Colour Me Pretty: Turquoise & Grey

Posted on September 22, 2015 by Samantha Costello | 0 comments

Dreamy inspiration board for the latest Little Green design client. We have been working on incorporating health and fitness with holistic values and I cannot wait to share more later this week.

I really love the way that turquoise and grey pair together. There is something calming yet refreshing about this colour combination and I think it reflects the values of this new brand really well.

In our initial consultations, Amy used the words fresh, calming, spiritual, lively and passionate when she was describing her business to me, so I used these words to gather inspiration and develop a colour concept.

Amy is based in San Diego, California and found me via the Female Entrepreneur Association. We communicated via Skype and email and even with the 8 hour time difference, we worked seamlessly together. Isn't the internet a wonderful thing?! :) xx

Colour Me Pretty: Nautical Inspiration

Posted on March 16, 2015 by Samantha Costello | 0 comments

I can never get enough of all things nautical. Whether it's white jeans, paired with a navy blazer and a striped tee or wedding stationery, there is something so classic and chic about this look and colour combination. It makes me dream about long Summer days, beautiful sailing boats, lemonade, holidays and happiness.

This is a strong choice for a wedding colour combination. It is classic, clean and won't date. Pops of colour or a pattern can be added easily, without becoming overwhelming but whilst adding personality. Navy blue and white pair really well with pale pinks and coral, which can add a feminine touch and is easily achieved via the flowers or decorations.

If you're looking for nautical inspiration for your wedding stationery, check out our beautiful Lucy range, which can be seen here with the complimenting colours Candy & Colbalt but this stationery suite can also be adapted to suit your specific colour theme.
